Forest inventories and appraisals are essential for assessing the condition, composition and estimated market value of standing timber, the underlying timberland and other land. Forest inventories are the basis for timber appraisals, timber and land appraisals, wildlife habitat studies, forest management plans and growth studies. Typical inventory reports include the number and types of trees, desciption of their sizes, estimates of the volume in cubic feet, tons, cords, thousand board feet, estimate of the age classes and estimates of the quality of land. Inventory reports can also include reports and competition problems, mortality from natural disasters and disease conditions. |
